Two boys from the track team performed well at the MHSAA state track meet Saturday June 2nd at Comstock park. Austin Wilson (Junior) competed in the high jump and was able to walk away in 10th place. He cleared 6 feet 2 in on his first attempt and the fact that he cleared it on his first attempt helped to secure him a spot in the top 10. His personal best this year was 6 feet 3 inches. The winning height was 6 feet 8 inches.
“Austin has the natural ability and body type to go even higher” stated Coach Hall. “He just needs to continue to be in the weight room, work on speed, and put the time in at practice and he can be an all state high jumper next year.”
Zach Dunsmore also took 10th place in the 400m dash with at time of 51.24 seconds. He was only 5 hundredths of a second off of placing in the top 8. The winning time was 50.29. The top 8 are considered all state.
Zach really is a great natural runner. When you look at him he is not the typical build of a 400m sprinter. He kind of flies under the radar when other runners see him they think what is that little guy going to do. The quickly find that he is much faster then he appears.
Zach has been great to have on the team the last three years. He is a great leader by example and is always up in front of the pack in practice setting the pace. We look forward to his senior year and him hopefully being all state.
