The Manchester varsity softball team battled more than just the heat on Saturday. The lady Dutch went 2-1 in the Diamond Classic Tournament that yielded them a third place overall finish. In game one the Dutch defeated Concord with a score of 2-1. Katie McClure gave up just two hits and struck out 12. Madeline Rickert picked up both RBI’s for the Dutch with a single in the bottom of the first inning.
In game two the Dutch took on conference rivals Grass Lake. The Warriors came out on top, outscoring Manchester 10-3. Katie McClure took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits and striking out four. Nichole Jackson also pitched, picking up three strikeouts and allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Despite having five hits in the game the Lady Dutch committed six errors that lead to six unearned runs. Katie McClure went 2-3 at the plate, while Kayla Boote went 1-2 with a two run homerun. Madeline Rickert picked up the other RBI.
In game three Manchester faced Hanover-Horton beating the comets 8-3. Manchester busted out 13 hits in route for the third place finish in the tournament. McClure went the distance in the circle allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out 12. Madeline Rickert led the Dutch offensively going 3-4 with a double and 3 RBI’s. Josie Rickert went 2-4 with 2 RBI’s while Erika Stetler, McClure and Nichole Jackson picked up the other RBI’s for the Dutch. The Lady Dutch improve their record to 23-7 overall.
